Hello my name is Helen Morrison and I have experienced post natal depression and anxiety Ok? Coming out of last year (2012) still alive has really been an accomplishment for me. I experienced quite a bad batch of post natal depression, suicidal thoughts, tendencies and extreme fatigue. So quite honestly any article regarding depression at the moment has my full attention.
There has been a scientific study released regarding the LINK between fast food and commercial baked goods. You did read that correctly – A LINK between fast foods and commercial baked goods. When I read this study, I thought “Well of course, you gotta be kidding me!!!” But no apparently we still need scientific evidence to prove that fast food and commercial baked goods are NOT GOOD FOR US!!!
The results are quite alarming; those who eat these products are 51% more likely to develop depression. WOW, and if you add in relationship breakdowns, social isolation, financial stress, out of work/lack of employment, trauma, major life upheavals, excess weight and other psychological disorders then I am hypothesizing that the percentage can only increase. NOT GOOD.
Depression is a common mental health problem and is significantly different from mere unhappiness or sadness. It is a long lasting, often recurring illness as real and debilitating as heart disease. So there is a big difference from the saying “I feel depressed” to experiencing the physical and mental effects of depression. These can make it hard for people to function normally in their daily lives and trust me that is right on the money.
About one million Australians experience depression each year with one in five women and one in eight men experiencing depression in their lifetime (2007 National Survey of Mental Health and Wellbeing, Australian Bureau of Statistics). Those statistics seem quite old now and I am very interested to see what they are six years on.
Now I know for a fact that not just what I have put into my body affected my experience with post natal depression and suicide. This was not the first time either. I have experienced depression a few times, when I was a teenager and after my first son was born and also have lived with anxiety for the vast majority of my life. What I am finding quite baffling is all the information out there that supports a healthy lifestyle and how the vast majority of the population still choose to die-t, eat junk food and consume sugary beverages. Hence why I am writing this blog, there is now scientific evidence that junk foods and commercial baked goods do not support a healthy life, a healthy body and a healthy MIND.
So I am transforming my life to support health - body, mind and soul – this is not an easy feat but is becoming easier and easier. Through choice, a deep want for a better world and to be a positive role model for my children I am walking the road to a better more informed future, one small step at a time – so let’s wake up, if mother earth did not grow it don’t eat it. If you don’t know what is in the food you are eating then find out, what are you feeding your own body? You children’s? How is the food and beverages being consumed affecting one’s life? Check out Additive Alert or the Chemical Maize books, ask questions.
Mind, body and soul are three elements of one thing, you and you deserve more than what you are fed from society, from old beliefs and from very good marketing. You can change, you can make simple yet very effective changes in your life, it's a matter of new choices and new decisions being made. Are you ready to be not just a willing participant in your life but to take back control of YOUR life, now. Namaste
